Why do I want to be on Elkhorn School Board?
What prompted you to run for office and what makes you a good candidate?
For the last 23 years, my goal has been to serve Elkhorn and the Elkhorn Public Schools with integrity. Being heavily involved in volunteering in and for the schools, I have learned a lot about the school system, worked alongside many of the employees and citizens, and experienced the changes and what is needed to keep up with the fast paced growth. My plans are not just to keep up, but to continually strive to make things better. I have a passion for education, community, helping others, and positivity. I have six children that have experienced or are still being educated by this school system. I have had the privilege to serve on the school board for the last four years and am very proud that we kept in-person learning a priority. I would be honored and humbled to be elected to serve on the Elkhorn School Board.
What issues do you believe are most important to your potential constituents and how would you address them?
Elkhorn is growing very rapidly. New schools are being planned and built. The Buildings and Grounds committee is working proactively to house all our children now and in the future. Financially, we will continue to keep everything transparent and be fiscally responsible. Safety is of prime concern and I will support all efforts to make our schools a safe environment. As everyone would recall, Elkhorn was one of the few schools that had a full year of in-person learning last year. We will continue to support our teachers and the needs of our community. CRT ( Critical Race Theory) is a college level theory that will not be taught in our schools. Our sex education program is in place (as mandated by the state) and will remain with the option of parents to view the materials ahead of time, while it is their choice if they want their children not to participate. Those children requiring special needs or services, will be respected and provided for. We will continue to provide opportunity and support for post secondary success, whether that be college, trade, or other. Ultimately, excellence in education for all is top priority. I would encourage pushing those that have the ability to learn at a more rapid pace, while simultaneously educating all children, at whatever level they are at. Ultimately, my goal would be that all children, no matter what level, become a better version of themselves. We have created and will maintain a top notch school system.
